What if I can no longer keep my pet? In an ideal world, you would need not ask this question. If you must rehome your pet first consider why you need to do so. If you see no solution other than rehoming, ideally you would keep the animal until a new owner is found. If this is not possible the next best thing would be to give the animal to a rescue that will find a new home. |

Will You Accept My Pet?
You've made the decision to rehome your pet, found a stray or saved in animal from a bad situation with the intent of giving the critter to a rescue, and would like to know if Minerva's Den can help. Here's what you need to know: Minerva's Den is not able to rescue every animal we are contacted about due to space and resource availability. If we are unable to accept an animal Minerva's Den will offer you at least one suggestion on who else may be able to help. If you included a photot of the pet we can list it as a courtesy on the website if we are unable to accept it into the rescue. Please call or email the rescue with as much information as you have regarding species, size, temperment and the honest reason you need to rehome the animal. Individual surrenders- those not coming directly from a shelter or other rescue- are required to surrender the animal's enclosure as well. This is to help break the cycle of unwanted pets. If the cage isn't there you can't be tempted to make an impulse purchase just because you have an empty cage. Minerva's Den does not have a required surrender fee. However, if you are able to do so it goes directly to the animals. Most of the expenses are out of my pocket. Minerva's Den is working on getting federal nonprofit status so that your donations will be tax deductible. Minerva's Den is unable to pick animals up. You are responsible for getting the animal to Minerva's Den. If you are unable to find a rescue close to you, Minerva's Den will accept animals shipped at your expense. Please make arrangements with us first. I have received Nile monitors in the mailbox that I was not expecting. Animals need to be shipped humanely and legally. I rescue out of my home so please do not abandon animals on my property. My neighbors are not amused when an abandoned iguana in a cardboard box gets loose and wanders into their yard.
